Home Sustainability Assessment

A Home Sustainability Assessment is 100% paid by the government and is a pre-requisite to applying for an interest free Green Loan.

An assessor comes to your home and completes a form to be submitted to the federal government. The form asks for measurements of rooms, windows, what kind of insulation you have, lights, electrical appliances and estimated usage, air conditioners, heaters, etc. The assessment usually takes about 45 minutes to do but the time depends on the number of rooms and appliances. If you’re interested, the assessor will also take the opportunity to give you some advice about how you can reduce your power and water usage. Some of the advice may include slight behaviour changes, inexpensive modifications, all the way to large modifications like pergolas or installation of solar electricity, solar hot water, external window shades, using more energy efficient appliances, and the list of possibilities goes on.

Once the assessment is submitted to the government, you will receive a report outlining suggestions for making your home more energy efficient. If you wish to do so, you may then apply for a Green Loan to help you implement some of those suggestions.
